Tourmaline is a complex boron-silicate mineral famed for its incredible spectrum of colors, often displaying multiple colors within a single crystal. It is a durable October birthstone (7–7.5 Mohs hardness) with a unique hexagonal crystal structure and trigonal, prism-like growth. Tourmaline is also pyroelectric and piezoelectric, meaning it charges with heat or pressure.
